This is a simple yet delicious red sauce to go with pasta. You can also use it as a topping for your chicken parmigiana. I even use it as a base for my pizza…so many uses for this tasty tomato sauce.
Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 6 garlic cloves, peeled & pressed
- 3 x 14-ounce cans of tomato sauce
- 1 x 14 ounces can of chopped tomatoes
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon crushed red pepper flakes
Method:
- Heat the oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
- Add the garlic and cook until lightly browned, about 2 minutes.
- Carefully slide the tomatoes and their liquid into the oil.
- Bring to a boil and season lightly with salt and crushed red pepper, oregano, and sugar.
- Lower the heat so the sauce gently simmers and cooks.
- Stir in the basil for about 5 minutes before the sauce is finished.
- Taste the sauce and season with more salt and red pepper if necessary.
