Philly Chickensteaks

We have never been able to find the same kind of meat used in Philly cheesesteaks locally so I came up with a tasty (healthier?) chicken version….

Ingredients for 2 sandwiches:

  • 1 lean chicken breast sliced into thin strips
  • 1 medium onion sliced thin
  • 1 jalapeno pepper sliced thin
  • 8 ounces mushrooms sliced
  • Olive oil
  • Salt and pepper
  • Bean sprouts (optional)
  • Swiss Cheese Slices
  • 2 long shaped rolls

 Preparation Method:

  1. Sauté onions, jalapeno & mushrooms until soft and golden in a couple of tablespoons of olive oil.
  2. Add chicken, salt, and pepper and cook until done about 10 minutes. Make sure to toss chicken about occasionally so cooked and browned on all sides.
  3. If you want an extra crunch toss in a couple of handfuls of bean sprouts.
  4. Add a  slice or two of swiss cheese over the mixture, pop the lid on (or cover with a plate) and turn the heat off.
  5. Heat the rolls up in the oven until crispy then scoop out the chicken mixture into the middle. Cut in half and serve with your favorite crisps/chips. Sometimes I add spinach or use different cheeses to vary it up!
