A delicious weekend breakfast treat. To make it extra special use Croissant or Challah bread instead of regular white bread.
Ingredients:
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted, plus extra for frying
- 2 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 4 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 10-12 slices of day-old bread
Preparation Method:
- Heat a large skillet or frying pan over medium heat for 5 minutes.
- Meanwhile, whisk together all the ingredients (except for the bread) until smooth.
- Soak 2 or 3 slices of bread on each side, (depending how many can fit in your pan) allowing excess batter to drip off;
- Swirl 1 tablespoon of butter in a hot skillet.
- Transfer prepared bread to a skillet; cook until golden brown on both sides.
- Repeat with remaining slices.
- Serve instantly with powdered sugar or syrup. Also delicious with fresh fruit
