French Toast

A delicious weekend breakfast treat. To make it extra special use Croissant or Challah bread instead of regular white bread.

Ingredients:

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted, plus extra for frying
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 4 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 10-12 slices of day-old bread

Preparation Method:

  1. Heat a large skillet or frying pan over medium heat for 5 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, whisk together all the ingredients (except for the bread) until smooth.
  3. Soak 2 or 3 slices of bread on each side, (depending how many can fit in your pan) allowing excess batter to drip off;
  4. Swirl 1 tablespoon of butter in a hot skillet.
  5. Transfer prepared bread to a skillet; cook until golden brown on both sides.
  6. Repeat with remaining slices.
  7. Serve instantly with powdered sugar or syrup. Also delicious with fresh fruit
