Quick and easy dessert…
Ingredients
- 2 Granny Smith apples, peeled and cut into medium slices
- About 1 cup blueberries or blackberries (or both)
- 4 ounces applesauce
- 1 tablespoon sugar
Crumble topping:
- 1 & 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup quick-cooking oats
- 4 ounces (1 stick) cold butter
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
Preparation Method:
Preheat oven to 350°F. You will need an ovenproof dish
- First, make the topping. Place the flour, oats, butter, and sugar in a food processor. Pulse a couple of times. Continue until it resembles crumbs. If you don’t have a processor, place the flour in a large mixing bowl. Then add the butter. Rub it into the flour lightly using your fingertips. When it all looks crumbly, add the brown sugar and oats, and combine them well.
- Arrange the fruit and applesauce in the dish. Sprinkle with the sugar. Top with the crumble mixture. Spread it out all over the fruit with a fork.
- Place the crumble in the oven. Bake for about 40 minutes until the top is golden. You can see the fruit bubbling along the sides. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or my favorite, hot custard.
*Use any fruit combination you enjoy to vary up this dish.
