Maria’s Night Before French Toast


  • 1 long ciabatta loaf of bread
  • 8 large eggs
  • 3 cups milk
  • 4 teaspoons sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla essence
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Powered cinnamon

Preparation Method:

  1. Cut bread into about  1-inch slices and arrange in 1 layer in a greased 13x9x2 inch baking pan.
  2. Beat the eggs in a large bowl then add the milk, sugar, salt and vanilla and mix well then pour over the sliced bread.
  3. Over the pan with foil and refrigerate overnight (or 4-36 hours).
  4. Heat the oven to 350 degrees.
  5. Remove foil and dot the top of the casserole with butter and sprinkle with cinnamon and then bake for 45-50 minutes or until bubbly and lightly browned.
  6. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.

If you like you can add fruit to this dish such as apricots or blueberries. Scatter them about before pouring over the milk mixture.
