Kim’s Orange Cake


  • 12oz softened butter (3 sticks)
  • 1 ¾ cups sugar
  • 4 large eggs room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon orange extract
  • 1 teaspoon lemon extract
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 12oz plain yogurt

 For the syrup:

  • ¼ cup orange juice
  • 3 tablespoons orange liqueur
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Preparation Method:

  1. Heat oven 350 degrees.
  2. Grease a tube or Bundt pan.
  3. In a large bowl cream together the butter and sugar.
  4. Add eggs one at a time beating well after each.
  5. Stir in the orange, lemon and vanilla extracts.
  6. Mix all the dry ingredients together in a bowl.
  7. With a wooden spoon gradually add mixed dry ingredients to the butter mixture alternating with the yogurt. Stir well after each addition but don’t beat.
  8. Spoon mixture into greased pan and bake for 40-50 minutes or until springs back to your touch and a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Cool, then invert onto a plate with a rim.
  10. In a small saucepan mix all the syrup ingredients until boiling. Cook for 2-3 minutes before removing from heat and leaving to cool.
  11. Remove cake from pan and then pour syrup over the cake and let it stand for at least 15 minutes before serving
