Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted, plus extra for frying
- 1 large egg
- ¾ cup milk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 8-10 slices of day-old bread
Preparation Method:
- Heat a large skillet or frying pan over medium heat for 5 minutes.
- Meanwhile, whisk together all the ingredients (except for the bread) until smooth.
- Soak bread on each side, allowing excess batter to drip off; repeat with remaining slices.
- Swirl 1 tablespoon of butter in a hot skillet.
- Transfer prepared bread to a skillet; cook until golden brown on both sides.
- Serve immediately with powdered sugar or syrup. Also delicious with fresh fruit
