French Toast


  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted, plus extra for frying
  • 1 large egg
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 8-10 slices day-old bread

Preparation Method:

  1. Heat a large skillet or frying pan over a medium heat for 5 minutes. 
  2. Meanwhile, whisk together all the ingredients (except for the bread) until smooth.
  3. Soak bread each side, allowing excess batter to drip off; repeat with remaining slices. 
  4. Swirl 1 tablespoon butter in hot skillet.
  5. Transfer prepared bread to skillet; cook until golden brown on both sides.
  6. Serve immediately with powdered sugar or syrup. Also delicious with fresh fruit
